History of Amirtha Kadeswarar (Abirami) Temple
The present structure was built during the Chola dynasty in the 9th century, while later expansions are attributed to Thanjavur Nayaks. This holy place Thirukadaiyur, Where God kicked Yama to death and blessed Markandeya with the Boon of ever remaining a youth of sixteen.This holy place is called by other names as “Vilvavanam, Pinchilavanam and Kadavur”.
