About Rajagopalaswamy Temple
The presiding deity is Rajagopalaswamy, a form of Lord Krishna. It is one of the important Vaishnavite shrines in India. The temple is called Dakshina Dwarka (Southern Dwarka) along with Guruvayoor by Hindus.
History of Rajagopalaswamy Temple
The temple was first constructed by Kulothunga Chola I, with bricks and mortar, indicated by various stone inscription found in the site. The place Mannargudi is termed Sri Rajathi Raja Chathurvedhi Mangalam and the town started to grow around the temple. Successive kings of the Chola empire, Rajaraja Chola III, Rajendra Chola III and kings of Thanjavur Nayaks, Achyuta Deva Raya expanded the temple
Rajagopalaswamy Temple Festivals
The major festivals celebrated in the temple are 18-day Panguni Brahmotsavam. Vaikunta Ekadashi during (December, January) and Navarathri during (September, October).
Chariot festival of Rajagopalaswamy Temple
The chariot festival is the most prominent festival of the temple and the surrounding villages, It is celebrated during the Tamil month of Panguni.

You can easily get regular buses and trains to Mannargudi from other places of the State. It is walkable distance from Bus stand and Railway station. There are lot of bus facilities available. It is located on Mannargudi main town. Conveniently located from Kumbakonam, If you are planning to take the bus, it will take 1.5 hours. Bus stand is not that close to the temple – need a town bus or auto.
