Shri Panduranga Temple
Sri Vittal Rukmini Samsthan in Govindapuram, District Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, is a sacred centre of worship where bhakti (the spirit of devotion) is unmistakably in the air at all times. History of Shri Panduranga Temple
Visitors soak in the strengthening energy of the sanctum sanctorum and worship the beautiful images of Sri Vittal Rukmini by offering sprigs of holy basil (thulasi) or flowers. The tranquil atmosphere of the ashrama and the gurukulam, established and presided over by Sri Vittaldas Maharaj – Brahmasri Jayakrishna Deekshithar, coupled with the spectacular architectural features of this temple, also known as ‘Dakshina Pandharipuram’, truly make this an abode of the gods.
Pilgrims come from far and near, at festival times as well as regular days, to have a glimpse of the fabulous sannidhi where Their Divine Majesties, Sri Vittal-Rukmini, reign supreme in all Their radiant glory. Devotees are thrilled to know that they can touch the beautifully carved, silver-encased feet of the jagatpita – jaganmata (parents of the world) and seek special boons in that holy enclosure.
Architecture of Shri Panduranga Temple
The sight of the huge Gopuram is a divine treat to watch. The Gopuram (main tower) of the Temple is 132 ft tall. The ceiling of the vasantha Mandapm is decorated with fiber class Printing. The Mahadhwar (main entrance) of the Temple is of Maharashtrian style and is a 80 ft tall structural beauty, with a width of 62 ft.. Large size of decorative depictions of 16 various Leelas (divine actions) of Lord Sri Krishna, sculptured in high quality wood are fixed inside the premises . The Kalash itself is 18 ft high. Mahamandapam, where Swamy’s Palli Arai (Sayana Mandapam) is constructed – is an unique structure, as it has an Artistic Dome, which is visible from inside too.
The Dome is of South Indian architectural design. Vasantha Mandapam is a piller less huge hall, where Namasankeerthanam, Bhajans, Upanyasams and various uthsavams like Radha Kalyanam etc., will be held. can accommodate more than 2000 Bakthas at a time . The Gopuram (main tower) of the Temple is 132 ft tall. A huge Kalash (Kalasam) crowns the Maha Gopuram.
